How to clean hiking, trekking, trail running or running shoes?

How to clean hiking, trekking, trail running or running shoes?

Many of our customers ask us for advice on how to clean hiking, trekking, trail running or running shoes. In this short article we will give you advice on how to do it without compromising the fabrics and rubber of sports shoes

If the shoes are very dirty, you should remove the mud and dirt as soon as possible with a brush or by running them under water. For example under the tap, in a bucket or in the river. Clean the mud when it is fresh as it is easier. It also helps to hit the sole against the sole to remove the mud embedded in the sole or the upper part.

The steps to follow are the following:

  1. Loosen the laces and wash them by hand or machine.
  2. Remove the insoles from the shoes. The insole must be washed separately, but not all are the same, so you should look at the label before doing anything. It is important to disinfect it thoroughly, as many bacteria accumulate in it and the bad smell is difficult to eliminate. You can wet them with fresh water and even rub them with a brush. If the shoes smell, you can use a disinfectant spray to remove bad odors.
  3. With the shoes, do the same procedure as above, you can wet them and rub them with a brush to remove mud and dirt. In general, all shoe textiles are similar, the only thing you need to be especially careful with is leather, a material for which you have to use a different cleaning method.
  4. It is essential that the insoles and shoes dry properly. Leave the shoes in a ventilated place at room temperature. Do not expose them to direct sunlight or place them near a heat source such as a radiator as they will deform.
  5. It is essential that the shoes and insoles are completely dry before you use them again.
  6. Between sports sessions or hiking walks, leave the shoes outdoors, never in a plastic bag, in a ventilated place protected from the sun. Once the shoes are dry from sweat, you can put them away in the closet.

Do not be tempted to use the washing machine, as this will damage the shoes, nor will detergents, dust or liquids. Shoes that have been washed incorrectly and are damaged are not accepted by brands under warranty.
